This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

 

Access Statement for Hark to Bounty

 

Introduction

Situated in the heart of the Forest of Bowland in the village of Slaidburn is The Hark to Bounty.  We are a family run real pub with 9 bedrooms. This is the perfect location for everyone. From walkers and cyclists to families or couples, there is so much to do in the local area.

We are 15 minutes by car from the market town of Clitheroe and 20mins from Settle. There are regular buses going to both of these places. Timetables are available form the Bar. We also have a large number of taxi firms, again numbers are available from the Bar.

We offer 8 bedrooms, one of which is a ground floor annex. However there are two steps into the building and one step inside the room into the bathroom.

All meals are cooked in house and wherever possible we use ingredients from local suppliers.

Pre-Arrival

  • The nearest railway station is Clitheroe, which is approx. 8 miles away. Taxis are not available from the station but there are a number of firms in Clitheroe. Please contact us if you require numbers for them.

  • The pavement from the road to the inn is cobbled.

  • This Access Statement is available in large print on request.

  • We welcome dogs in the rooms with the guests for a nominal cleaning charge. We also allow well-behaved four legged friends in all public areas.

  • Anyone enquiring or looking to make a booking should inform us of any special needs of disabilities that they may have in order that we meet any personal requirements.

 

Car Parking and Arrival

  • There is approx. 15 car parking spaces to the rear of the pub.

  • It is approx. 30m from the car park to the front door.

  • The carpark is mainly gravel covered with some hardstanding, as you come round the corner from the car park there are cobbles leading to the front door.

  • There is one step into the building it is 36 inches wide and 5 inches deep. The open width of the front door is 35 inches.

  • Assistance can be given with luggage.

 

Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed at the bar, which is level throughout apart from the area directly in front of the bar (there are small ramps down to the carpeted areas either side), where they are asked to register.

  • The bar is 41inches high.

  • Ample seating is available with upright chairs, some of which have arms and some are without.

  • The flooring is short pile carpet either side of the car area which is stone flags.

  • The area is evenly lit with wall lights.

  • Guests are shown to their bedroom and are informed of all meal times.

  • The front door is locked at midnight. If guests are going out for the evening and returning late we can arrange for a late key to be provided.

 

Bedrooms

  • There is 1 bedroom on the ground floor, however this is in an annex across the road.

  • There are no ground floor bedrooms in the building.

  • The average opening width of the doors is 30 inches.

  • The rooms vary in size.

  • We have 4 double bedded rooms, 2 twin bedded rooms, 2 single bedded rooms and one triple bedded room.  Some of the rooms are large enough to accommodate extra beds if required.

  • All rooms are lit by ceiling or wall lights.

  • All rooms are carpeted throughout with short pile carpet.

  • All rooms have a T.V.

  • There are tea/coffee making facilities in all rooms.

  • Hairdryers are in all rooms and non-slip bathmats are available on request.

  • All beds are made with duvets but can be made with blankets on request.

  • Rooms are serviced on a daily basis.

  • There is a bell on the landing by Rooms 2 and 3 which, is to be used after hours for emergencies only to raise a member of staff.

 

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (En-suite)

  • All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. They all have bath and shower.

  • The floor is short pile carpet in some rooms with non-slip linoleum in others.

  • The toilets are 16 inches from the floor to the seat.

  • The sinks are 31 inches from floor to top of bowl.

  • The baths are 19inches from floor to top of bath.

  • The bathroom doors open inwards.

  • Lighting is provided by either ceiling lights or spot lights.

  • Bathrooms are light coloured.

  • Towels and some toiletries are provided.

 

Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

  • All public areas, halls, stairs and landing, are well lit using a combination of ceiling lights and wall lights.

  • The floor covering everywhere is short pile carpet apart form a small area leading to the back door which is wood flooring and the area directly in front of the bar which has stone flags.

  • There are 13 steps to the first floor.

  • The stairs are 10 inch wide and 7 inch deep.

  • There is a handrail on one side of the stairs.

 

Public Toilets

  • There is a ladies and gents public toilet on the ground floor.

  • The floorings are carpet and tile.

  • There are two doors into the toilets the width of them is door 1 - 25inch and door 2 - 24inch.

  • The sinks are 30 inches from floor to top of bowl.

  • The toilets are 16 inches from floor to top of seat.

  • Toilet doors are 22 inches and open inwards.

 

Dining Room

  • All of downstairs is used for dining.

  • The flooring is short pile carpet.

  • Lighting is provided by wall lights.

  • Breakfast is served to the right of the bar.

  • The main course of breakfast is waiter served, cereals and fruit juice are self served but could be served on request.

  • The chairs are without arms but could be changed for seats with arms if required.

  • We are able to cater for dietary needs. Please advise a member of staff of these requirements.

 

Garden

  • At the front of the pub we have five tables.

  • At the back we have 15 tables.

  • There is a large garden at the back.

  • Access to the garden can either be from the front door and through the car park or via the back door and across the car park.

 

Additional Information

  • If you require any assistance during your stay please contact a member of staff at the bar.

  • The pub operates a no smoking policy.

  • Evacuation procedures are in all rooms.

  • We offer free wi-fi to all guests.

  • Children are welcome.

  • You are welcome to store any medication or special dietary foods in the fridge in the kitchen as long as it is clearly labeled.

  • Mobile phone reception is poor in this area but there is a public phone in the bar.

  • An information folder is provided in all rooms and extra leaflets are available from the bar.

  • A number of walk books are available for guests to borrow whilst staying.

 

Future Plans

  • We are looking into getting a ramp provided for the front door.
